UNT Faculty Profile:
I am an Associate Professor on the faculty of the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, University of North Texas. I joined the department in August 2012. Prior to coming to UNT, I was an Associate Professor in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC).
I obtained my B.A. degree in Japanese Philology from Kansai University, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Linguistics from University of Hawai'i at Manoa. After completing my Ph.D., I worked in Dr. James Flege’s laboratory as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
My research interests include phonological acquisition in typically-developing children, second language acquisition, and prosody of language. I love phonetics, cross-cultural and cross-linguistic differences, and most of all, children and their language! Currently, I am working on acoustic analysis of English liquids and fricatives produced by native English-speaking adults and children and native Japanese-speaking adults and children. I also have another project on phonetic and phonological development in young children. For this project, I am working with Dr. Barbara Davis at the University of Texas at Austin, and we are studying consonantal productions during first-word period.
